WORKSHOPS

In-Flight Security Workshop

Presented by Emirates Group Security

Unruly behaviour in-flight is not a new phenomenon to aviation but much has changed since the law we use to combat it, the Tokyo Convention was introduced in 1963. As the industry awaits a major update (MP14) to these laws, what are some of the main concerns facing airlines and airports now and how can we be more effective with both prevention and management. Discussion points will include alcohol intoxication, behavioural trends, reporting methods and an update from IATA on MP14. The session will culminate with a demonstration of Advanced Restraint Techniques (ART) part of the standard security training programme for all Emirates cabin crew.

IATA Blue Skies

Presented by Matthew Vaughn Director, Aviation Security & Cyber, IATA

As we start to enter what we hope is the beginning of robust post-pandemic recovery phase for international aviation we need to look anew at the issues we all face – and be far more engaged, constructively challenging and self-critical of how we can best meet the future head-on.

Special session on Trafficking in Persons and the Aviation Industry

Presented by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

Thousands of victims of trafficking in persons are transported across borders annually, while traffickers take advantage of the increase of national and international flights as well as inadequate border controls.

In this context, airports and airlines staff are ideally positioned to contribute with early detection measures to identify and protect vulnerable passengers before disappearing forever. They can also alert law enforcement officers who are in many instances the “first responders” to handle and refer victims of trafficking.

During this presentation, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime through its AIRCOP Global Programme jointly implemented with INTERPOL and the World Customs Organization, together with partners, will provide insights on the current trends and challenges related to trafficking in persons, particularly through airports and the potential contribution of the airline industry in identifying and preventing trafficking in persons."
